The Sunday Salon - January 16

It's funny, I sat down to write this post and couldn't think of anything exciting that happened last week. It was one of those blank moments when I thought, what in the world did I do over the course of the week? And then as the activities and the experiences flowed back through my memory one by one I realized that it wasn't nearly as uneventful as I first remembered.

On Sunday night my nine-year-old had a fever and a sore throat, which wouldn't have been a big deal except for the fact that my husband had a confirmed case of Strep Throat. So my kiddo had to stay home from school for two days until he'd taken enough antibiotics to keep him from being contagious. Thankfully no one else in the family has come down with it, so I think we're safe now.

Monday evening we watched the national championship game between the Oregon Ducks and Auburn. Our family was decked out in Oregon State University gear (except for me - my only long sleeved OSU shirt was in the wash and it was too cold to wear a short sleeved shirt) rooting for Auburn. Yes, I graduated from the UO as a Duck, and yes I now root against them - I'm sure my friends from UO think I'm a little nutty. I live in OSU Beaver country now, and when in Rome. . . In any case, I'm sure I was happier than the Duck fans were at the end of the game.

On Tuesday we got a dusting of snow in the afternoon. My six-year-old and the dog had a grand time playing in the backyard as the big fluffy snowflakes fell.

Sadly! , his ol der brother had to stay in the house because he was still recovering from his sore throat. Hopefully we will get another snow day this year so that he can play in it too.

Wednesday was date night for my husband and I (we went to a Mexican restaurant). Thursday night was band practice, and that was a lot of fun despite most of the flute section being absent. There were only two of us in the entire section, so I had to play all of the solos and the first flute parts and the other flautist played the second flute parts. We're playing a lot of Italian classical pieces this time and it was only our second practice with the music, so it was certainly entertaining (by which I mean filled with mistakes).

Friday night, on the spur-of-the-moment we decided to take the boys bowling. I usually like to bowl with them, but was feeling very tired and watched from the sidelines this time instead. Both of my kiddos scored over 100 and were so excited (they were using bumpers though - I don't think the scores would have been as high otherwise).

Yesterday we took the boys to a Portland Trailblazers game as part of a Cub Scouts event (my oldest earned a free ticket via his popcorn sales).

And today is once again a Sunday of resting - thank goodness for days of rest! I'm planning to start reading The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern.
